This beautiful white ovula ovum shell (white egg shell) is not just a shell. To Tongans, it means much more! The white shell, known as the Pule or in modern terms Pule’oto, symbolises the purity of a Tongan girl as part of her dance costume attire (Teunga Tau’olunga) Female dancers usually wear the pule (ovula ovum shell) on black or coloured ribbon around their neck, or on parts of her costume.
Others, commonly use the large or smaller shells on their neck pieces (kahoa) or other regalia (kafa, or ta’ovala) These shells can be used on many other Handicraft pieces also.
PLEASE NOTE: We aim to provide the highest quality of all our shells. We stock true authentic and natural shells, which at times may present some slight imperfections, marks and discoloration.
